Jewellery showroom told to discontinue savings scheme

A city consumer forum has directed a jewellery showroom not to continue a jewellery savings scheme without printing the exact quantum of wastage charges to be paid by members. The members should be informed about the same at the time of joining such scheme.

A Bench of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Chennai (North), comprising the President, R.Mohandoss and Member, T.Kamalakannan, passed the direction on a complaint while holding that the jewellery showroom had committed deficiency of service.

In his complaint, V.Jaisankar of Choolai, said he joined the Golden Family-Jewellery Savings Scheme of Kerala Fashion Jewellery (KFJ) here after he was promised that under the monthly scheme he could purchase gold for the total instalments paid and also be eligible for bonus and gifts apart from interest depending upon the monthly instalment. He joined the scheme and after completion of 24 months he approached the showroom to purchase jewellery for the due amount of Rs.27,291. He was asked to pay a flat 20 per cent wastage towards the gold value to be purchased. At the time of joining the chit he was not informed that wastage at 20 per cent would be charged. This was an unfair trade practice.

In the complaint, KFJ, Purasawalkam showroom, and the Managing Director were cited as opposite parties.

The opposite parties contended it was explained to the complainant on September 8 last year when he approached the Purasawalkam showroom to purchase jewellery that he was entitled to a bonus of Rs.1500 plus half a gram gold coin along with the total instalment of Rs.24,000. At the time of joining, the complainant had declared that he had read the rules and regulations. As per the terms and conditions, the complainant was not entitled to cash refund or for purchase of gold coin.

The forum Bench said even though the opposite parties contended that the conditions that no gold coin or cash would be refunded and the complainant should pay wastage charges had been printed in the passbook, there was no evidence to show whether they were explained to the complainant at the time of joining the scheme. The percentage of wastage had not been stated. When the complainant was not given any option either to purchase gold coin or to get refund of the amount in cash, claiming of wastage at 20 per cent would amount to unfair trade practice. The complainant was willing to pay wastage at 10 per cent.

The forum directed the opposite parties to return the matured deposit sum of Rs.27, 291 in the form of gold jewellery at the rate prevailing on September 8, 2010 by charging only 10 per cent wastage with no other hidden cost.

In the alternative, the showroom should pay the matured deposit with nine per cent interest.

Further, the opposite parties should pay Rs.25,000 as compensation for mental agony and deficiency of service and Rs.5000 as costs.

What Are the 3 Main Attributes of Warts?

A wart is a small non-cancerous tumor that grows on the outer layer of the skin.

It generally resembles a cauliflower and its color is usually a bit different from the nearby skin. It is usually painless but sometimes it may itch or burn. Some type of warts group into clusters.

They are caused by the human papilloma virus or HPV. There are many stains of the human papilloma virus and different stains may cause different types of warts. The human papilloma virus is contagious.

• Sprawling and Reproducing

Not only can they spread from person to person, they can spread also locally. They are capable of forming "child" growths and spread in the immediate area of infection. Treatment should be prioritized due to this spreading threat. It is also important to prevent them from coming back.

• Infectious

Apart from just spreading at the site of infection, they can spread to other regions of the body. The spread especially occurs when other areas are open or cut in some way.

You can reduce spreading warts by actively using disinfectants and by not letting anyone come in direct contact with your warts.

Warts on the Face - Are They Diminishing Your Self Esteem?

Warts on the face are more common in children and adolescents, but other older individuals may also have them. Warts on the face are a viral infection caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). They are mainly of two types, namely flat warts and common warts.

Being overly conscious about facial warts will adversely affect your self-esteem. This is particularly for teenagers. It is very important to teach your children that the large majority of them will disappear after several months or some years. Further more it is important that our children learn about the importance of being beautiful inside, the importance of helping others and the need to build meaningful and healthy relationships with their peers.

Remember that we are both physical and spiritual beings and we have to take care of both in order to lead happy and fulfilling lives.

You can also nurture in children certain habits. Children have a tendency to scratch their warts. These habits will only transfer the HPV from the warts to other parts of the body. Other important precautions involve not going bare footed where the human papilloma virus thrives. These include humid and hot places such as swimming pools, bathroom floors and gyms.

Finally if the self esteem of the individual is so adversely affected by the warts on the face, there are many ways that you can do to get rid of them. These range form over the counter medications, home treatments and even surgical procedures.

Whatever treatment you choose keep in mind that certain treatments may leave a scar. So be very well informed about this. Remember that you are treating warts on the face and any left scar is visible.

Warts on Legs - How to Remove Leg Warts with Salicylic Acid and Duct Tape

Leg warts are more common on the legs of women than that of men. They are also more common in children and adolescents than older individuals.

A leg wart is a flat wart that occurs on the legs. Usually a single wart may infect the nearby area resulting in a number of new growths that may sometimes amount up to 100 units.

Salicylic acid is an over the counter wart removal medications that has been used throughout history to treat various skin problems. The procedure to treat your leg warts by salicylic acid should be applied on a daily basis and should be applied for several weeks or months. It is as follows:

• Put the salicylic acid on your leg wart
• Cover with a bandage
• Remove the bandage and scrub with a sponge the next day

• Dry your growths completely by leaving it without any duct tape or other sort of bandage through the night.
• Cover your growths in the morning and repeat the procedure again for several weeks or months until the leg wart is gone completely

The major advantages of these two procedures are that the ingredients used are easily to find, are inexpensive and can be applied in the comfort of your home.

However there are various disadvantages such as:

• They require a lot of commitment
• The skin may be irritated
• Some scarring may occur in the treated area.
• It may take several weeks or months to cure your leg warts by these treatments
• Some leg warts although they may be eliminated, may return some weeks or months later

Warts and Your Way of Life

Your way of life has a huge impact on your warts.

You should limit the intake of certain foods such as the so called junk foods, fried foods, additives, sugars and margarine. Nowadays these are very common and are both quite handy and tasty. But being tasty does not mean that they are doing any good for your warts.

There are many types of physical exercise you can do. Perhaps one of the most beneficial is jogging in the countryside. This has the advantages of exercising in a non-stressful and non-polluted environment.

Physical exercise may also make you sweat and this has a purifying effect. A sauna can also induce sweating and so consider this relaxation method as well.

It is important to keep a balance in everything you do. Remember that we are not physical beings but also spiritual beings.
