On the negative side, this thing is so big it didn’t work with my current mount so I had to temporarily set it on a table for testing. Fortunately, there is an OmniView glass projector shelf that is also touted to be quite big — it’s a perfect fit for this projector. Some of the thickness is required due to the lens shift capability. If the size is due to trying to cut down the sound, it was well worth the sacrifice.

This is the screen I used: FAVI 16:9/120-Inch Electric Projector Screen (HD-120)

It should act as a perfect component of Home theater with HDMI Cables, as HDMI Cable carries the video as well as audio signal. I have Onkyo Receiver, but only have one HDMI cable. The design will be

Some of the thickness is required due to the lens shift capability. If the size is due to trying to cut down the sound, it was well worth the sacrifice.

I debated and debated on replacing my aging Infocus X1 for my home theater. After reading about this and finally understanding the capabilities of “lens shift”, and getting a couple of AVS forum reports, I decided to give this a try, knowing Amazon is great about purchase mistakes.

This is my first video projector. I never considered buying one before because of concerns over the contrast, sharpness and overall quality of the picture.

If you don’t ever watch old movie or TV show DVD’s made in the 4:3 ratio, this is a great projector. But if you do, and you want to use HDMI hookups, I suggest you look at another brand.

The outside of the projector does not get as hot as the old one. Ventilation within the projector is much better.

I can’t say enough how happy I am. I took a month to research all this and made this decision. The first time I put a show on the screen I instantly knew it was all I had hoped for. It gets used on a daily basis and I have now used it for about 500 hours (the projector keeps track of lamp hours used) without a single issue. In about one minute I have a projector which is always out of the way on the ceiling taking up no usable space in the room along with a screen also not taking up any usable space to having a 100 inch incredibly high resolution viewing experience night or day. The only adjustments I make are to the projector by selecting “Dynamic” during the bright day time to “Living Room” which is slightly dimmer to avoid seeing any pixilation at night and that only takes a few seconds from the remote to change.

This was my first projector and I was a little intimidated by all that I had read concerning the set up of a projector. This could not have been more wrong, mounting and set up took around 15 minutes. Extremly user friendly, the picture on my elite screen is as good as my sony LED. I love it

The light bulb used in a slide projector draws a current of 4 amperes when operating on 120 volts.

a) What is the bulb's resistance?
b) What is the bulb's power consumption?
Slide Projector Bulbs

Me
a)
V= IR
R = V/I
R = 120/4 = 30 ohms

b)
P = IV
P = 120 * 4 = 480W

DAVID H
Just apply Ohm’s law.

V = I * R
P = V * I

So,
a) R = V / I = 120 / 4 = 30 ohms

b) P = 120 * 4 = 480 Watts.

Buzz It

Sexing the Dead

By Marion DS Dreyfus

Latest (and possibly the one most likely to raise eyebrows of a permanently cynicized public) outrage to hit the news world is that Egyptian authorities are reportedly giving the nod to their...upright...citizenry to have sex with their dead wives "for the first six hours" without it being forbidden or a problem for the cultically Observant.  We can observe that, as with fish, fresh is best.  After the wife has lain on the floor or divan for 7, 8, 10 hours, she is just not so appealing a sex object as she was when she was newly stricken, stroked, decapitated, or cardiac-arrested for whatever reason.

Early random thought: clearly, when such a process of postmortem frolick (PMF) -- or hoisting the djellabiya for last-minute gropes and kinky funk -- has gone on, vital organs begin to deteriorate and are progressively less viable than had they been whisked to a portable organ ice-chest and EMSed to the nearest clinic and/or hospital to contribute to the healthy prolongation of the lives of others.

But perhaps organ donation -- other than the obvious one attached to the (live) husband -- is not the predominant thought on the "mind" of the PMF activist in the household of the recently removed-from-life.

Of course, organ donation is not wildly popular in Egyptian households, whatever caused the death of the wife.

What seems to be more critical and important is that this is, like cliteridectomy, done under frightful conditions, and despite it being illegal in many places and not even in the Koran as it is currently malpracticed -- as far as I know -- this ruling is exceedingly uncool: a dead body may present a communicable disease, condition, or a-borning fatal development -- and such abysmal acts of demented and brute ignorance encourage bacteriological spread (as it were).  A hot climate is a lot less sensible in which to indulge than would be an igloo, perhaps, where deterioration is quite a bit slower than in humid, sweltery homes in the 100- to 120-degrees-Fahrenheit zone sans the saving grace of A/C.

It is something no civilized nation indulges in.  In societies where such practices as eating the brains of the dead (usually enemy dead, to be sure -- nothing so clammy as one's own kinfolk) occur, diseases such as kuru and equivalents often ensue, with genetic sequellae and untoward organic consequences in the long term.  Flesh-eating disease.  Even the current blare in the tabloids, mad cow disease, comes from eating the flesh of infected animals.  If the body has been treated in a conventional morgue, moreover, exposure of infectious agents and toxins to corporeal soft tissues can even transmit carcinogenic diseases treatable with radiation.

Not to mention, of course, the danger of contracting HIV/AIDS, if the wife had it, and the husband thinks he can get away with unprotected erotic acts, because there is no worry about the wife becoming pregnant.  Or how about herpes, and other sexually transmitted indelicacies, or garden-variety infections?  All this for a salacious connubial necrophili-act with the ex- or former (insert John Cleese and dead parrot ref., for Monty Python fans) wife.  Some of these diseases are active shortly after being contracted, and some lie dormant, like scorpions hiding in the desert sands until a juicy prospect comes along.  A second or third wife, perhaps.  But though they may emerge slowly in some instances, when they finally flare up, they are doozies, sometimes rendering people infertile, blind, mad, even paralyzed.  Husbands who marry after this episode of PMF will surely fail to take precautions based on a paltry few intromissions with the gone and forgotten wife, ensuring a revisiting of health peril upon newer, updated models of wife/victim.

Yes, in societies where messing with the dead is seen as acceptable, massive and often hard-to-contain diseases often develop that spread among the living.  Aside from these two conditions that are deplorable and unacceptable in 2012, the husband who seeks sex from an unwilling or sleeping or sick or recovering wife might in fact then kill her just to have sex despite her demurrers.  It seems bizarre to say so, but in fact Islam is infamous for fevers of crime against millions of the living and enemy dead -- it is not unexpected that men who are allowed -- nay, encouraged -- to beat their wives and kill wayward daughters insisting on their right to marry out or convert or the like might simply kill the wife, have sex, and tell the medical examiner that she died after sex.  Tsk, such a nice woman, she had been.

They behead women, their daughters, and their own wives with impunity, since the cult is little more than a shell for male domination of others and conquest of nations in the name of "religion," with maximum prejudice against non-sharing "infidels."  So what would stop them from wholesale murder should their abused wives choose to say no to sex.

Recall that the word has gone out not long ago that Arab men may breast-feed off lactating female adults who are not their wives or kin -- using some sort of bizarre reasoning to justify this excuse for mammary play with strangers, without running afoul of prostitution laws or adultery accusations.

I think this is the forward edge of a great many new abuses by the cultist-Islamists -- in addition to all the horrific behaviors we have come to abhor and revile -- one more reason the unhinged or the mosque-jostled madmen can exert their small-organ, small-income, small-mind, limited-vision (take your pick of temporal "reasons" and rationales) extremist lack of self-esteem.

Actually, screwing the dead is no new thing among that particular belief-system: Mohammed, according to the hadith, had sex with his aunt -- three days after she was buried.  No wonder there's so much weirdness among a certain section of earth's inhabitants.

It all seems a quite unexceptional extension of their current vilifying misbehaviors.

[socialactionfoundationforequity:15211 Toronto tries to zone sex toy shop out of existence along the Queensway

Buzz It

Another front in the city's War on Fun—the naughty kind. From the Toronto Star:

A city zoning bylaw (514-2003) prohibits the opening of an adult establishment on this stretch of the Queensway. And the city refers to the Municipal Act which defines such a business thus: "Any premises or part of them is an adult entertainment establishment if goods, entertainment or services that are designed to appeal to erotic or sexual appetites or inclinations are provided . . . ''

Steve Bannister has some of that Capital T trouble now with his aptly named Aren't We Naughty business at 1100 The Queensway. It sells lingerie, sexual aids, toys and erotic paraphernalia, as well as such things as condoms and lubricants, which can be found at most pharmacies. He has been served with a notice of violation of the bylaw, telling him to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 8 and face a charge of operating an adult entertainment establishment where it is prohibited.

But Bannister believes the bylaw is "old and confusing . . . everyone from department stores to drugstores sell some of the same products we do.''

The city, however, has zoned Bannister's business out of legal operation because, Councillor Peter Milczyn (Ward 5, Etobicoke-Lakeshore) says, Toronto wants to try to clean up the strip. There was a similar, only partly successful, effort to do the same on Yonge Street.

This doesn't seem like a case where the courts are going to reverse a city by-law, but as always: I am not a lawyer. God knows what would happen if a court set a precedent that the city couldn't have arbitrary or vague zoning laws.

The Star does note that at least one local is more concerned about the liquor store in the same strip then they are about Aren't We Naughty.

Ban Ki-Moon impressed with India's public health efforts'

Last Updated: Saturday, April 28, 2012

Chandigarh: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who is on a four-day visit to India, has appreciated the public health efforts of the country, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said here on Saturday.

"The UN Secretary General met me (in Delhi) on Thursday during his current visit to India and appreciated the public health efforts being put in by us," Azad said in his address at the 32nd convocation of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here.

He said Ban during his hour-long meeting with the Health Ministry officials led by Azad stated that UN is now focusing on five specific goals -- reducing malaria mortality, measles elimination, polio eradication, stoppage of mother to child HIV/AIDS transmission and tetanus eradication.

Later interacting with reporters here, Azad responding to a question said Ban's upcoming meeting with the business leaders in the country was how to generate more funds not just for India but the entire globe to tackle the health-related issues.

He further said that Ban during his visit first choose to have discussions with him and his team before even meeting other dignitaries.

"This shows how concerned he is about health. He appreciated the steps taken by the Government of India in the health sector, which most countries have not taken", he said.

On Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal recently raising with the Prime Minister the need to have a cancer institute for his state like the one set up by the Tatas in Mumbai, Azad said, his Ministry had proposed to the Planning Commission to have 10-12 "stand alone" cancer institutes like the one in Mumbai.

The minister said cancer was among the three diseases, including diabetes and heart ailments, which were fast spreading in many parts of the world, particularly in India.

"We have started a programme in 100 districts across the country that include two districts in Malwa region of Punjab and in Bathinda where we will screen the patients for these diseases", he said.

"We want to screen patients across the country over the next six years for these three diseases, but at the moment the problem we are faced with is not of funds but lack of adequate number of doctors, technicians and other staff", he said.

"As the process may take time, we have asked the major hospitals and medical colleges around the country to upgrade infrastructure, put more doctors and other equipment for treating cancer patients and the Centre will lend all help in this", he said.
