While United Nations special envoy Kofi Annan was negotiating a ceasefire with the Syrian government, Syrian forces attacked town after town in Idlib province, as if they wanted to use every remaining minute possible to cause harm.

Our researchers visited five of the towns, obtaining evidence that forces executed at least 35 civilians and destroyed hundreds of houses.

One witness, who discovered 16 people who had been executed, said: "We first found five bodies in a little shop next to the house. They were almost completely burnt. We could only identify them by a few pieces of clothes that were left."
